With the sound and edit more or less complete, I've started to consider more iterations of colour pallets. I've included my intended pallet as version 1 and I've experimented with two more different uses of colour. I've used Davinci Resolve in order to do this.
One such example of experimenting with colour was masking certain areas to be saturated more than others as seen below:
Like in the previous module, I've applied "The Pleasantville Effect" to make him stick out as the only full saturated object in frame. Everything else has very low saturation; this is to give the implication that there was a light burning inside him before (i.e. the smoking ash pile) but his surroundings are grey and expansive as the smoke spreads into the atmosphere; almost poisoning it.
In this frame, I've done the opposite. He has little saturation as shown in the red oval; whilst his surroundings are lushly saturated. I'm trying to imply here that the only smoke left is inside him; that clouds his sense of identity. His surroundings on the other hand have cleared the air of the smoke from before and are now helping him to begin a fresh start as he takes out his anger.
Below are the different versions of colour pallet iterations:
Version 1:
Empty - sick - fresh - warm
Version 2:
Empty - sick - fresh - active - cold - warm
Emptiness inside himself; no identity
the act of trying to keep a dying flame inside him alive has made him sick and ill emotionally, physically and mentally.
The sickness increases when the ash is completely cold
As he lets out his aggression, he allows himself to begin a fresh start
The lime colour showing his activeness to get back on his feet again
The blue cold is a build up to the climax of the film
Contrasting with the blue, the orange comes out even brighter showing the pinnacle of his achievement.
Version 3:
Cold - empty - fresh - active - deep - cold - warm
Using an addition of blue to give the feeling of cold and empty at the same time.
The pale green still implies he is sick but contrast with the blue shown before hand; mark of the internal conflicts inside of him.
Fresh start as implied in version 2
Lime yellow as implied in version 2
Blue is more saturated in this version to bring more contrast. Also gives a more cold feeling for a moment of suspicion to a climax where he falls back into emptiness.
Orange as implied in version 2
