Theory: Cinema Sound
Cinema Sound is something I'm beginning to watch to expand my knowledge on sound. Hosted by Mark Edward Lewis, I've looked into volume 1 that explains the principles of recording to perfection. I have learnt new theory on the uses of an EQ, timecode, ADR (Automatic Dialogue Replacement) etc. I feel that these videos will help me grasp an understanding of sound design to create a set for my film that can bring out the emotion just as much as the visuals can.
My intention with the sound design for my film is to begin non-diegetic with sounds of the internal emptiness of the protagonist; presenting to the audience the gravity of his struggle of being chocked by a fire he is trying to save. Once the smoke is gone, diegetic sound will be introduced to bring the audience back to the reality of the him being lost in the wild. But it will be more natural and therefore more accommodating sound for them to focus of his expressions of anger and frustration. Finally from the climax to the end of the film, non-diegetic music will be introduced to amplify the emotion in the moment where he lights the fire and the audience can be fully immersed in the warmth of the orange glow of the flames.
