Colour:
- Beginning: Very cold colours, low saturation. Reflective of the cold emptiness the character feel and the illness he gets from trying to light a fire from smoke.
- Middle: Colours become slightly more saturated, inclusion of greens, reduction of grey.
- End: More saturation, warmer colours; orange and yellow.
Tone:
- Beginning: More affinity of tone at the start then slight contrast to begin rise of intensity.
- Middle: Affinity of darker tones to prepare build up to climax.
- End: Contrast of tone to emphasise the difference in the protagonist by the end.
Line:
- Beginning: Rapid rise in intensity of diagonal lines for the increasing pressure on protagonist.
- Middle: Line remains fairly unstable throughout the middle act to reflect protagonist's internal conflict.
- End: Line evens out with more horizontals at the end; reflecting balance and order in protagonist's emotions.
Movement:
- Beginning: Slow movement to begin with reflecting contemplation.
- Middle: Movement gets more active as tension rises.
- End: Slows down at the end to resemble calm.
Rhythm:
- Beginning: Long takes to begin slowly.
- Middle: More motivated movement to increase rhythm.
- End: Fragmented action to created a beat to the end.
